medium-large scale producers of GM soya in Argentina
Nominated for Worst National Disgrace
Wednesday 23 April 2008
Reasons for this nomination
For making a huge uproar about the increase in export taxes. These farmers are responsible for the expansion of Monsanto’s transgenic soy in Argentina, soil pollution, genetic pollution and driving hundreds of real peasants out of the land. The Argentinian government increased their taxes on the huge amount of soy being shipped out, so these farmers are attempting to manipulate public opinion by disingenuously presenting themselves as part of a "peasant struggle" -- as poor laborers being exploited.
