The unholy trinity (Canada, New Zealand, Australia)

Nominated for Most offensive act of cultural piracy

Nominated by Sandy Gauntlett (Pacific Indigenous Peoples Environment Coalition) – Tuesday 07 February 2006

Reasons for this nomination

Canada, New Zealand and Australia, along with non Party to the CBD the USA are known as the Four horsemen of the Apocalypse. Nominated for their total betrayal of Indigenous Peoples at the ABS working group in Granada.

Canada, for smiling sweetly while slipping the knife in behind the scenes and for announcing at a drunken dinner that they have to be careful what they said at the meeting because they intended to run for Parliament soon (against the current government).

Australia, for their total opposition to Indigenous participation proposals by the EU and for announcing that their Prime Minister was an odious little man (at the same dinner).

New Zealand, for their repetitive acts of opposing Indigneous participation along with the most novel excuses for why they could not possibly procede at this stage. (they were tired, they had not had time to read 3 month old documents, and they needed time to reflect).

All three totally opposed the text proposed by the EU although none of them put in anywhere near as much money into the convention they seem to think they have a right to dictate to it.
